New Pen Day - Esterbrook Estie Botanical Gardens -Flex Fine
Thank you for enduring my struggle using a new ring light/camera/phone arm today. Apologies until I get things worked out. Anyway… enjoy this beautifully colored Estie with me! She will return for a cameo appearance soon!

Kakimori Dip Nib -Does it perform better than Pilot iro-utsushi nibs?
Переглядів 27419 годин тому
Out of dissatisfaction with the performance on my two Pilot Iro-Utsushi F and M nibs, I invested in the Kakimori Dip Nib. I was already satisfied with the Kakimori Brass and Stainless Steel nibs. So far, so good. Time will tell… #kakimori #pilotiro-utsushi #watermanserenityblue IG @pennednpainted ua-cam.com/video/cykA9EOgX-I/v-deo.htmlsi=_ZPd_4C0FsmiCzHB

Hi Marcy, New subscriber here. Love the planner! 💜🧡🩷
Thank you for watching and subscribing. I appreciate you❣️
Thanks for the video. I've been contemplating buying one of these. It appears the clear demonstrator versions come with a CON-40, but the opaque colored ones do not.
You are correct. The clear demonstrator pens come with a converter and a cartridge. They also cost a few dollars more to compensate for the addition. If you like lightweight pens, these should be quite enjoyable for you.
A beautiful ink! Maybe not the most practical one, but shimmer is pretty! 😁💛👍
Yes, great for celebration and Holiday cards. ✨
Too bad it isn't made anymore.
@sushanart Diamine has a similar ink called Golden Sands. I’ll try an ink comparison soon.
Thank you! 😁💛
That matches you.
I’m really enjoying it!
@@MarcellHobbs I agree with others that mentioned that YOUR video really brought out the colors, more so than the pictures on the websites, there is no comparison. Hopefully I can hang on until pen day.
@tbayless8324 Oh thank you for letting me know. I was fretting about not doing the pen’s beauty justice. I did post a pic on IG of it with the background of Galen Leather undyed.
@@MarcellHobbs You are so Welcome, Marcy.

@@MarcellHobbs Thank you so much. My hearing isn't all that good. :)
@@oldladyfarmer7211 No worries at all! I usually show the front cover/name, but this is the one time I chose not to. 😂🤷🏼♀️
Yessss , sooo satisfying 💜 💜 💜 WE LOVE THE COLOUR OF ROYALTY
I’m so glad you enjoyed! 💜
Wow! That is a gorgeous pen. When I saw this on the brand's website it didn't look that great, but seeing it in your video it is really beautiful. I love the flex nibs too! I would love to see a comparison video of the various Estherbrook nibs sometime. BTW, Kujaku means peacock blue!
Oh wow! I was so frustrated because I couldn’t get all the beauty to show on camera. I will do a comparison video of the Esterbrook nibs that I have. Thank you for the meaning translation. I appreciate you!
Congratulation, it is beautiful ! I have 2 Estie and I love both of them: an Oversize Honeycomb and a regular Nouveau Bleu
Oooo, I don’t have either of those models, but I’ve seen pics. Absolutely beautiful!
That looked like a good combo! 🙂 I have my first Estie with a M nib, but haven't inked it up yet. Not quite satisfied with the colours (Aqua Special Edition), but the grip is good. Would like to try a Flex Fine or a Journaler nib but they seem to get sold out as soon as they get them back in stock. 😇🩷🙏🙌
I do have a journaler nib. I try to get a variety of pen color, metal color, and nib sizes. I’ve been thinking about a pen maker inventory to explore and compare nib sizes.
That sounds great! Hopefully we'll see it soon then. 😇🩷🙏🙌
I have the same pen in broad. It’s currently inked with a wine red/berry color. I love too how there are so many colors to match either an ink. I haven’t thought of Ku Jaku and that’s a great idea. Akkerman Deep Water Blue looks good with it too. 😊
I’m excited about the ink opportunities with this gorgeous pen. I regret waiting so long to share and experience its beauty. For the deep blue color I am thinking about Diamine Oxford Blue, but due to my delay in updating my Colo-Dex cards, I didn’t have the sample readily available. My bad. The Broad nib must be thrilling when using those gorgeous inks! Let us enjoy our Botanical Gardens together!
I recommend using a loose leaf system to put your inks on perhaps you could get a hole punch and put it in a 3 ring binder of somesort I use CVS caliber filler paper and a 3 ring binder other papers that are good are Oxford 1 subject notebooks you can rip out the pages and they have a 3 hole punched in to transir
Thank you so much for your recommendation. I also have my Colo-Dex cards on rings. I know Wearinguel has a booklet with card sleeves that I am considering as well. On a positive note, I am always open to improvements. On a negative note, I am always willing to abandon current system to experience another. 😂🤣
@@MarcellHobbs I should note I have every ink I've ever reviewed on 3x5 cvs caliber notecards and on 3"x3" canson watercolor paper swatch cards, and in my cvs caliber composition notebook I also have a loose leaf list of all the inks I have in a binder so.. try all the things ;)
@@MissMarilynDarling Absolutely 💯. Since I am extending, updating, and re-evaluating my swatch and record keeping system, I will consider all options and find that perfect niche. This sounds like I may be able to incorporate my A5 Gillio.
I just use a Pilot Metropolitan FP with a medium Wingsung nib. I decided I wasn't going to go through all of the Dip Pens. I don't swatch. I just test out my new inks with the Metro. Looking like you are having fun! Marcy.
Great nib choice! I have and enjoy the CM nib on my Metropolitan and Prera. Very enjoyable writing experience. I will use the Kakimori brass and stainless steel nibs in artwork. Thanks for sharing your great idea with others. 🖋️💗
@@MarcellHobbs Forgot to mention, the nib is just inked I have an empty cartridge in case the ink goes in the back, but so far no problems.
@tbayless8324 Perfect!
😇🩷🙏🙌

Yes, I think Serenity is a perfect name! 💙
@@MarcellHobbs And the price....... I sent a THANK YOU email to Waterman for this ink.
@varadharajannadarajah Absolutely affordable at less than $10 when I purchased. The note was a thoughtful gesture. Companies appreciate our product satisfaction.
Reflection on the glass. Simply place neutral grey cardboard on the scale and tap tare again. The cardboard from the back of a common pad of paper is more than good enough.
Hey! Thanks for that fabulous tip! I seldom use that kitchen scale anymore. I have a smaller, scale more suited to this purpose, but I will keep that in mind if I ever need to use it again. 👏🏻. I appreciate your help.
I just ordered this pen in a fine with a pilot ink. I can’t wait to try it out.
I’m sure you’ll love it! I’m a SPED teacher and carry it on my lanyard at school daily! It’s a beautiful workhorse. Enjoy 😊

Your videos are always informative and fun to watch. Thanks for uploading and sharing your experience. I look forward to receiving my nahvalur pen soon :)
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m excited for you to receive your new Nahvular! Enjoy your new pen!
Thank you so much for the video. Love watching this!
You are so welcome! My first experience using a vac fill was a bit challenging, but so much easier now. The vac bottle makes filling mess free. I do need to share how to use the TWSBI pipe as well. Thanks for watching.
Hello!!! I have both the Pilot dippers…I notice that the ink viscosity plays a role in how they perform. Some inks slide right off the nibs right out of the bottle, others coat the nibs like syrup. I could be incorrect….just my observation doing my own ink journaling! :)
You are correct! I first noticed this a year ago when trying to use an iro- utsushi nib to test Wearinguel Wuthering Heights. It was impossible as the ink would not cling to the nib. The nib was newer at the time. I need to try that ink bottle again to test it after it has aged. I have more experiences to come and I appreciate your input. By the way, you are the first person to ask me if would purchase the Kakimori nib in the last. At the time I wasn’t interested. How are you enjoying yours?
@@MarcellHobbs I use mine regularly! I was hunting for the glass nib for a red hot minute…then gave up & purchased a different glass dip pen. I do, however, appreciate & use the Pilot dippers, too. I like seeing inks in fine, medium & broad writing. <3
@rc17268 Awesome! A viewer asked if I was planning on purchasing the glass nib. When I responded to her I thought of you and my previous response. At this time I am satisfied with my current glass dip nibs, but Kakimori has a proven quality that I can’t ignore if I ever get the chance. I am not currently seeking a glass nib. I would be interested to know your experience if you find one.
I have all three Kakimori nibs and I’ve been very happy with the pen nib. I don’t have the Pilot to compare, but I’ve really enjoyed using the Kakimori and the writing I get from it. Thanks for the video. Loved seeing the glimpses of your ink and pen storage.
I’m so happy you enjoy three Kakimori nibs. I’ll share more of my ink storage cart later as I process and update my organization and inventory. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Will you get the Kakimori Glass Nib too? I'm very interested in it but it's harder to get a hold of. I will get the Tachikawa holders to the Kakimori nibs. They are in different lengths. Nice test! 🩷👍
At this time, I’m not planning to get the Kakimori glass nib. I have three others already, including the J. Herbin. You never know. I never planned on getting any of these either. 🤣
😆❤️👍
I recently purchased the brass nib version and do like it as well. Thanks for sharing.
I’m glad you are enjoying your brass nib. Thanks so much for watching! 💗🖋️
Thanks for sharing..interesting to see the nib comparison. You have quite an impressive cartful of inks! Wow! It would be a fun video for you to do a talk- through of what you have. (Thank you for the mention of my channel on this video.☺️🩵)
Yes, all part of my organization intentions. I do have several inks yet to swatch. I’ll be sending you more samples soon!
@@MarcellHobbs 😃🖊️💚
I have a sample of this one. It's very pretty.
It is! I purchased this bottle at the Dallas pen show last September.
That pen 😍😍😍
💚It’s the Leonardo Momento Zero in Alga💚
in love with that point B
It’s fabulous and makes ink so enjoyable!
I love your organization ... your pens look amazing in those drawers!!!❤
Thank you so much! Since I am a teacher on summer break, I am trying to reorganize my ink bottles, samples, and pens, which leads me to consider a video like yours… one pen per brand.
Beautiful!!!
Thanks Chris! I appreciate your input!
Murasaki Shikibu was a 10th-century lower-class aristocratic woman who served at court and as a tutor to the then young empress. She is also the author of Japan's oldest novel, The Tale of Genji. (The oldest in the world?). She was a very intelligent woman, and was well versed in Chinese poetry, which was only available to boys at the time, and can be seen in The Tale of Genji. She was also a poetess who composed many wonderful waka poems. Murasaki means purple. This would be the perfect ink for teacher to use in school👍
Oh my goodness! I love this historical information! Would you mind if I highlight this ink color again, citing your information? I will also research more detail to add. I so appreciate this detail! I appreciate you! 💜🖋️
@@MarcellHobbs Of course! Murasaki Shikibu and The Tale of Genji are well-known outside of Japan, so you will find many English explanations of them. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. I love the culture of the Heian period and the aristocrats in which she lived. The Tale of Genji is a long love story centered around a prince named Hikaru Genji, but it is very profound and makes you think not only about love, but also about life and the happiness of women in those days when polygamy was the norm. Of course, the original is written in old Japanese, so I read it in manga form, as a Japanese person would! Haha.
@@MarcellHobbs To mention a little more about her name, Murasaki Shikibu is not her real name. It was customary at the time not to reveal one's real name except in close relationships, so it was a common name at court. Murasaki was probably taken from Murasaki no Ue, the most famous heroine of The Tale of Genji, and Shikibu was the title of her father, brother, or husband.
@sorairo825 I appreciate the continued information and education!
You can get a Kaweco std size converter for the Perkeo for $4. They just don't come with the pen
Thank you. I’ve since purchased a converter for the Perkeo. 💗
Gorgeous ❤
Enjoying the shimmer and sheen!
I'd love to know if Spiced Apple gives you any clogging issues over. I need to try it in a different pen. It's so pretty.
I haven’t had any clogging issues with spiced apple but I use it in B nib pens so I can achieve the adequate ink flow. I enjoy the contrasting green sheen in the red ink along with that golden shimmer. 🤩
I already have Kyanite du Népal och Emeraude de Chivor... don't tempt me! 😁💙👍
Sorry, the temptation is out there. 💙 I also have the Emeraude de Chivor and two other colors. 💚💙🩶 The shimmer is mesmerizing!
😍
Maam please wait for camera to foucs
I appreciate the feedback. I’m new to creating shorts and learning how to edit video down to one minute. It’s tricky. I appreciate you and hope you see improvements soon!
where you bought the Pilot 823, where I tried it, it scratches the nib a lot and I don't like that? I like the characteristic smoothness of writing with this fountain pen and with two as a student it is perfect.
Oh my! If you purchase from a reputable retailer in the U.S., you have the opportunity to exchange for a satisfactory nib performance. Always check return policy before ordering. I am now comfortable with small nib tuning adjustments on my own. You may need to find a nibsmith to help you out. My Pilot Custom 823 has always performed well. I recently inked it and enjoy it daily.
😍
This is helpful. I'm trying a new ink and this is a way to make sure the old one won't taint the colors! Thank you.
Awesome! I’m so glad I could help you. Enjoy your pens and inks!
I have no idea what I have just watched or what is happening in this short but I feel weirdly comforted and at peace. You, my good ma'am (I assume you are a ma'am) have just gotten yourself a new subscriber.
Yes, I am a ma’am. I enjoy sharing beautiful inks in fabulous pens. Just a minute a day to share some joy, and in your case, peace. Thank you for your appreciation and support. Check back daily during the month of June for more. I appreciate you!
Did some flushing myself today and filled a new Namisu pen (photos on my IG). My fingers still look a little crazy, but I'll survive. May get some pen flush, syringe and a bulb syringe. 😁🩷👍
I love inky fingers, but those flushing tools will make your (pen) life so much easier. What’s your IG? I’ll check it out! I am @pennednpainted, but don’t post consistently.
This was helpful. I’ve wondered if I needed to add pen flush to my supplies. Thanks. I hope it doesn’t stain the other pen!
I hope it doesn’t stain the other pen, but I will do a thorough cleaning if necessary. I did email Nahvular about the discrepancy on my box and bottle labels and informed them of the staining ink. I am using it on other paper as an ink study and will do a chromatography strip with a comparison to other inks. 🤷🏼♀️ We’ll see. Thanks for your input.
@@MarcellHobbs I recently had to contact Nahvalur because my horizon’s piston mechanism broke. They are sending me a wrench and directions to fix it. I hope I can. Karyna had a video showing it so I’ll watch hers again and hope for the best. They were responsive to my email at least!
@FranM6179 I’m sure you can achieve this! I haven’t seen that video, but will look it up. I did receive and email reply this morning from Nahvular regarding the label mishap. I then replied about the starting of the ink. I’ll probably receive a response tomorrow ☝🏻
❤
Nice inks and pens, although a little confusing with the wrong box? 😇🩷🙏🙌
I know! I almost deleted that portion of the video, but decided you could use some humor! 🤣 I’m writing morning scripture with that pen/ink now. It is still showing up as gray with shading but minimal shimmer. I’m going to flush and re-ink the pen today. Thanks for enjoying along with me.
That's a gorgeus ink, and I fell in love with the pen, too!
Yes! This pairing was a last minute decision, but I’m so pleased with it. B nibs showcase shimmer so well. Thanks so much for watching.
Two pretty new pens! I especially like the quartz-looking one and that orchid ink. 👍🏻🖊️
Yes! I am anxious to experience another ink in this pen, and this ink in another pen. I’m glad I didn’t do a full fill. The Orchid Flower ink will appear in my LMZ Angel Skin as soon as I write out the Noodler’s Black Swan English Roses. Thanks for enjoying along with me.
Just an array of lots of enjoyment ❤
Yes, enjoying pens and inks . 💗🖋
love the glittery silver/white one !!
I was totally surprised at its beauty! I was totally unaware of this pen until I accidentally (while browsing 😂) discovered it. I’m anxious to try another ink. Maybe one with red to bring out the red sparkles! 💖 Thanks for enjoying along with me!
That looks great. I’m retired from teaching full time (after 34 years). I had a similar struggle with lesson plan books and created my own from B5 notebooks for the last 10 years I was in the classroom. Drawing out the monthly pages was always a summer task for me and I inevitably made a mistake on at least one of them! The Sterling Ink one looks like a good one!
Congratulations on your retirement. I start my 28th year in August. Since all formal lesson plans are required to be submitted digitally, this is perfect for me, scheduled IEPs, etc.
